Robert MacKenzie Cross (1836–1911)

 

Kew gardener, 1857.  Collector of cinchona and rubber.  

Went to Ecuador for Cinchona, 1859;  Panama for Castilla, 1875;  Brazil for Hevea, 1876.   Seven trips in all for Kew Gardens.  Onward transmission of plants to India and the Far East.

 

Born :  Caldervan, Kilmaronock, West Dunbartonshire, 1836; 

Died :  Torrance, Stirlingshire, 1 March 1911

Parents were Alexander Cross of Gartocharn, Kilmaronock and Elizabeth Glen
